Swarovski Beetle Bottle Openers

The Beetle Bottle Openers have been one of our most controversial subjects among our ‘Crystal Fanatics’, for their ultimate uniqueness and for their design attributes… some like it while others do not think they are very attractive. What do you think ??

At one time, they were valued at several thousand dollars.

Swarovski Kristallwelten (Crystal World) – Reinvented

Swarovski’s Kristallwelten (Crystal World) –  a bit of crystal-encrusted luxury?  You Bet!

Twenty minutes outside Innsbruck, amid the mountains of Tyrol, a  world of shimmering crystal awaits. Swarovski Crystal Worlds is an attraction unlike any other – and better than ever after its recent renovations.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds opened in 1995 to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary, designed by André Heller.  In its 20 years of existence, this unique destination has attracted more than 12 million visitors, constantly reinventing itself.

To celebrate its 120th birthday in 2015, the Tyrolean crystal maker ushered in a new era of wonder. The Chambers of Wonder exude a new brilliance; five of them have been completely redesigned and expanded outwards to include an open space of crystalline nature: the garden.  Swarovski spent $38 million revamping Kristallwelten, which includes a glassy four-story “playtower” from the Norwegian architecture firm Snohetta, new art exhibits, like Crystal Cloud, a suspended cumulous-shaped net studded with 800,000 crystals, and a subterranean retail space dripping in crystal !

Landscape artists Andy Cao and Xavier Perrot created the Crystal Cloud, a monumental installation comprising some 800,000 hand-mounted Swarovski crystals that drift above a black Mirror Pool.

Don’t miss the adjacent Swarovski Store. In its new form, the shopping landscape is among the largest Swarovski flagship stores worldwide.

The food at Daniels Café and Restaurant warrants a trip on its own & is accessible without an entrance ticket.

Swarovski Savvy Jewelry & Then Some

The Vintage Swarovski Savvy Jewelry line was produced from 1986 until the end of 1999.

Savvy produced Necklaces & Pendants, Bracelets, Earrings, Brooches, & Pins. Most of the jewelry was presented on merchant cards with tags.  The “SAVVY” name was a smaller scale and lower priced line, often marked with the swan logo. Many of the original tags were labeled with “Swarovski full lead crystal” & sold in high-end department stores. In the 1990’s, Swarovski used a number of different text fonts & styles for the Savvy labels, but not on the jewelry itself.

Swarovski trademarked the Savvy product line in 1992 and abandoned it in 1994.

A History of Swarovski Jewelry
FYI: A new book published in 2015 by Nadja Swarovski, “Swarovski : Fashion, Performance, Jewelry and Design”
In celebration of Swarovski’s 120th anniversary, this is the first significant book on the premier maker of luxury crystals’ rich collaborative history with fashion designers, filmmakers, artists, and designers. Swarovski’s influence extends from haute couture collaborations to architecture, design, jewelry, and other disciplines in a rich display of cultural exchange with the most eminent designers of our time. The marriage of couture and crystals began at the House of Worth at the beginning of the twentieth century and continued for decades to follow with the leading fashion designers of our age, including Prada, Alexander McQueen, and Riccardo Tisci, who embellished their collections with Swarovski crystals season after season. Swarovski’s collaborations have expanded to partnerships with architects and designers, including Tord Boontje, Hella Jongerius, and Yves Behar, and to compelling moments in cinematic and performance history. This stunning book features essays that position Swarovski as patron and innovator, as well as a foreword by Nadja Swarovski, largely responsible for expanding the company’s fashion profile.

Swarovski Starburst in Las Vegas

The Swarovski Starburst in Las Vegas is a Midnight Celebration with a spectacular light & sound show that lasts about 3 minutes. Swarovski envisioned the excitement of New Year’s Eve in this creation, but now you can see it 365 days a year.  Every night is New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, thanks to the Swarovski Starburst. At 9:00 p.m. and midnight the crystal-bedazzled starburst drops 55 feet from its perch above the Grand Bazaar Shops.

swarovski-starburst
The unique Starburst is the only one in the world, measuring about 14 feet in diameter & weighing 4,000 pounds. It features 911 custom-cut Swarovski crystal spheres & over 1800 points of LED lighting. The multicolored, continuously changing lights took 1,260 hours to create. The light-action show is choreographed to music.

The Swarovski Starburst is located above the 400 foot free-standing pavilion to house the Starburst. The design of the pavilion store architecture features the Swarovski store resembling the cut crystals they’re famous for with dozens of huge, angular facets.

las-vegas-swarovski-las vegas store
The store is located in The Grand Bazaar shops, an outdoor shopping attraction at Bally’s Las Vegas, at the intersection of the Las Vegas Strip and Flamingo Road. Following the motif  that bazaar shops allow bartering, there will be items chosen where shoppers can do some price negotiating. The featured items may change daily.
Can you imagine bartering at a Swarovski Store ??

Store hours are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m daily.

With all this glittering goodness soaring 55 feet above the Las Vegas Strip, you’ll never have to wait for New Year’s Eve again.

Swarovski Fitness Trackers

The Fitbit Craze

The ‘Fitbit’  replaces and expands on the idea of the pedometer, and it does a lot more. It tracks other body beats, too – shows time of day, number of steps, current heart rate, estimated miles walked, estimated calories burned.  Sleep tracking is also available.

The growth is fueled in part by aging baby boomers, who are determined to stay healthy — as well as fashionable and savvy.  Indeed, luxury fashion brands are racing to come out with chic wearable technology such as smart dresses, bracelets and pendants that track fitness and other daily activities.

For fancier fare, Misfit Wearables (a hardware company that designs & manufactures wearable products that utilize sensor technology) (www.misfit.com) has partnered with Swarovski crystals to create some useful bling & fashionable fitness trackers in the form of elegant bracelets. The activity tracker is a fully faceted crystal in a Swarovski exclusive cut, that measures your activities and sleep, and syncs with your smartphone. A battery is included, which is replaceable & lasts up to 4 to 8 months.  One bracelet ($169) has a violet crystal that is solar charged so you don’t need batteries that I believe will be released in June.

swarovski_shine_violet_slake.0

Swarovski Crystal offers what could be the ultimate lady’s fitness tracker. One ad declares:   “Hidden behind the Swarovski crystal are all the tracking smarts you could ask for, and there’s a range of accessories from bracelets to necklaces. The tracker comes with a sports strap too as standard, to track running, cycling and swimming.”

Slake fitness tracker
Misfit also makes pendants and other wristbands. They all wirelessly track activity, such as steps, distance and calories. They also monitor how many times a night you wake up and move around, so you get a sense of how soundly you are sleeping. Pendant and wristband accessories, without the tracker, can be ordered at the Misfit website & prices are from $69 to $149.

Wearable tech is still in its early stages. Sensors will continue to get smaller and more lightweight — and, it’s hoped, cheaper.

Misfit’s apps in Google Play and the Apple App Store allow users to get tracking info on their phone.

How many steps did you walk today?
